The Valley

I wander reluctantly from the high peaks

where eagles survey their kingdom

Down to the meadows where my shadows dance

amidst the grass

and down yet further

into the Valley

where I sit.

The darkness comes

Now I AM my shadow

lost in my own memories

I seek to find the infinity and peace within

yet demons and voices from the past haunt my peace

as my mind dances like the mythical hindu monkeys

I am everywhere BUT here

The evening comes

my heart races.

Fear.

I want to run

but instead I sit with this monkey mind

visited by enemies from my past

critical voices of roads not taken

decisions made long ago

The vigil lasts through the night

darkness tears at my flesh and my heart

yet once listened to, these voices start to calm

the fingers pointing AT me slowly fold into the palm

My breathing starts to even

as I hear my own self

a self that includes all of this

And more

They are ALL me

No Defense is needed

And for the first time

I feel the infinity within

that has not been touched

or damaged in any way

I smile and exhale.
