This Too Is The Path: Chapter 4

The ashram is now about a year behind me.  I’ve returned to San Francisco and found a law job with a wonderful mentor, Tom.  This time I only engage myself as a contractor paid by the hour, so I won’t feel ‘owned.”  Under this arrangement I can work fewer hours, or if I am worked to death by the firm, at least I will paid for this effort.   While I can’t say I’m loving the law, this time I am feeling more connection with the people I work with and the overall experience is more joyful.  I am daily thinking about a plan to figure out what else to do, but so far no ideas or opportunities had emerged.

Although I’m living in SF, I find myself spending most of my time in Marin County on the weekends.  One such weekend day has me visiting a small café in Mill Valley (the Half Day Café).  I sit at the counter, order a huge brunch of eggs, pancakes and bacon.  I’m reading a book and sipping my coffee happy to have some time to decompress.  Eventually a young guy (about my age) sits down beside me at the counter.   Within a few minutes we start talking.  I learn that he has lived in Marin for many years, but recently splits his time between Asia, Europe and the USA.  As I dig deeper into his story, I learn that he is a tailor.  He has found amazing sources in Asia to make hand-made suits and shirts, and then travels in Europe and USA to visit his clients.    When he finds out I’m a lawyer (albeit a poorly dressed one!) he asks if I have need of a suit?   A big smile fills my body.  I suddenly remember the vision.  A blue suit.  The tailor has found ME.  We set up an appointment for the following week, and I order the most wonderful, amazing, well-fitted suit I’ve ever owned in my life.

Commentary

I call this fulfillment of a vision, or a dream, ‘magic.’  By definition magic is what it feels like to live life in the flow, where things happen in inexplicable ways in which the word ‘coincidence’ is simply not strong enough.  In terms of life journey, I believe we all have the power to create magic and to co-create our lives.   Invariably this is called the ‘law of attraction’ or “the law of intention.”   Whatever it is called, when we can hold thoughts and wishes in the deeper states of consciousness and restfulness, the universe aligns in a way to make these things happen.  While I never understood the rationale or physics of this, my experience is that this is the way the universe works.  The most detailed explanation I’ve read about how and why this works is found in Joe Dispenza’s books – all of them are great -but I am particularly partial to “You are the Placebo: Making your Mind Matter “ which is a great read.    And for another great read on this topic about how we create our own reality try Sue Morter’s book “The Energy Codes.”   Sue states that “if you were empowered to see your life this way—as happening entirely and only for your eventual benefit—you'd be living in flow and collaboration with life.”  Whether you believe that we can co-create reality (or not), what might it serve to live your life as IF this were so?

 Questions (Your Commentary)

·        If you were to create something in your life right now, what would it be?  (large or small)

·        What is a ‘coincidence’ you’ve had over the past few months?  Write it out including specifics – who? What? Where?   What role did you have in creating this?

·        How would your life change if you took the perspective that you CREATE everything that happens in your life, whether good or bad?  Whether or not this is ‘true’ or not, what would be the benefit of choosing to look at events in your life this way?  What would be the drawbacks of looking at your life in this way?

·        What emotion, feeling and thinking do you need or want to bring in your life that would better support the life you want to create?  What emotion, feeling and thinking do you want to eliminate to better support the life you want to create?
